by: Chandler and Micheal
Descartes is often called the first modern philospher. He wrote Discourse on Method (1637) it was known as the birth of the scientific method. Descartes practiced in the study of cosmology and the nature of matter. He develped theories on the makeup of matter and the operation of heavenly bodies.
Though Descartes’ astronomical explanation failed to account for alot of observed phenomenon. Descartes was about to publish a book on cosmology called The World in 1653, when he heard of Galileo Galilei’s book Condemnation by the Church and thought better of it. He later wrote and theorized about the existance of the soul.
